The Lord God spoke to the people of Israel through His servant Moses 1. In the New Living Translation of Numbers 35:9-15 words of emphasis are repeated. These words from the Old Testament are ones we seek for in our current lives:
- refuge (vs.11,13),
- protection (vs.12,15) and
- safety (vs.15).
God can lead you to Canaan, a place where there is refuge, protection, and safety. If you have given your life to Christ your eternal home is in heaven 2. On earth there is a place where Heaven, your Canaan, exists in present day. You too can discover these peace giving elements when you are in the presence of your Creator.
When reading the Scriptures it is as if the Holy Spirit breaths life into you 3. The Spirits miraculous presence fills you as you absorb the words of truth. For a non-believer the words in the Bible cannot be fully comprehended 4. For one whose life has been transformed 5, the Words of the Old Testament are as relevant as the New Testaments.
God wants us to meet Him at this place of refuge, where He speaks through the pages of His Word. The Words will seem new, as if you have never read them before. Only in the inspired Words of Scripture will your soul find this refuge. The dawn of each morning is an opportunity to find true shelter from the world by reading the inspired words written in the Bible.
Where does your safety lie? If it is in something of this earth it will pass away 6. If it is in money, it too will disappear 7. God’s Word is nourishment for our mind as food is for our bodies 8. God’s wisdom from the Proverbs will protect you, the Psalms will quiet your heart and mind, and welcome you to give praise. Where will you turn to this hour, you weak and weary, to find rest”9?
